  • Cutting Pik Design is a story of inclusivity. A young girl, just 7 or 8, sits at home while her mother prepares the feast. Her mother brings home a small piece of pork, carefully divided for the children. To this girl, her mother — the Skin Pik Meri — is a hero.
  • This Bilum is handwoven from nylon. 
  • These multipurpose bags are used for carrying garden produce, agriculture and cradling sleeping babies. The Mekeo people continue to celebrate their unique and vibrant history through their artistic expression.
  • The beauty of the Mekeo bilums is not only in the vibrant colours but also in the skill and dedication required to produce them. It is a true testament to the rich cultural diversity found in Papua New Guinea.

This Bilum was woven by the Mekeo people in the Central Province of PNG.The central west region of the Central Province is home to the Gabadi, Roro and Mekeo people, known for their striking, vibrant traditional designs. The women of Mekeo, in particular, are renowned for their weaving skills, creating intricate and colourful bilums.

To clean bag; hang in direct sunlight for a couple of hours and then shake out.
