Barbra Mix Mix Bilum Clutch
Bag Number 3783
- This Mix Mix Bilum Purse is a combination of Two Needle and Step Diamond design.
- The 2 Needle Design tells the story of two orphans, a brother and sister. The brother told his sister to go and spy on the village women to see how they weave. The sister did just that and taught herself the craft of Bilum.
- The story behind the Diamond design is rich in culture and is held dear to the women of Papua New Guinea, not only is it a symbol of abundance and prosperity, traditionally in Goroka it is given to a newly wed as a sign of wealth and prosperity for their new married life.
- This Bilum was lovingly woven by Barbara Pagasa. Barbara lives with her husband Michael in Mount Hagen in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. She is a wonderful ambassador and aggregator of Among Equals and also a much-loved group leader and dedicated program coordinator at House Of Hope, a refuge she established for women requiring healthcare. Barbara takes these women in with tremendous compassion, warmth and kindness.
- This Bilum is handwoven from acrylic and wool yarn as well as upcycled knitwear using traditional weaving techniques.
- This purse is lined and features a frame closure and internal pocket.
