Barbra Diamond Bilum Purse

  • The story behind the Diamond design is rich in culture and is held dear to the women of Papua New Guinea, not only is it a symbol of abundance and prosperity, traditionally in Goroka it is given to a newly wed as a sign of wealth and prosperity for their new married life.
  • This Bilum is handwoven from acrylic and wool yarn as well as up-cycled knitwear using traditional weaving techniques.
  • This purse is lined and features a frame closure and internal pocket.

This Bilum was lovingly woven by Barbara Pagasa. Barbara lives with her husband Michael in Mount Hagen in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. She is a wonderful ambassador and aggregator of Among Equals and also a much-loved group leader and dedicated program coordinator at House Of Hope, a refuge she established for women requiring healthcare. Barbara takes these women in with tremendous compassion, warmth and kindness.
